sometimes we say goodbye 
because they cannot give us what we need 
even though they love us dearly

maybe their heart was not ready to receive yours 
maybe your heart was not ready 
maybe you had to leave 
maybe you both had to leave
maybe it just did not work
maybe timing wasn’t right

it doesn't really matter
letting go is hard
when the love is still there 
when it feels like a piece of you left with them
when you just want to keep them close

when you have to start a new story
but thought you were still in the middle of this one

and when you have to remind yourself…
